ASTO presents new study on the Vistor`s profile of Alentejo
May 21, 2026

On May 19, in Évora, and May 20, in Santiago do Cacém, the ASTO`s research team held public sessions to present the findings of the new Visitor Profile Study, covering both the low and high tourism seasons. The panel included Dr. José Manuel Santos, President of the Alentejo Regional Tourism Authority, the organization that commissioned this study focused on the sociodemographic profile, travel behavior, and satisfaction levels of visitors to the Alentejo region. The initiative also aimed to update the previous Visitor Profile Study conducted in 2011 by the same institution.

The study was developed in response to the need for a deeper and more systematic understanding of tourism demand in the region, providing valuable insights for local stakeholders and helping strengthen Alentejo’s competitiveness as a destination. Under the technical and scientific coordination of Dr. Joana Lima, the presented data resulted from a large-scale research effort supported by a team of surveyors who ensured coverage across several municipalities in the different subregions of Alentejo. A total of 2,100 questionnaires were validated, collected through a rigorous methodological approach.

Data collection took place between November 2024 and April 2025, as well as during August and October 2025.
